Buffalo Boys

Description
These are the events of the two brothers who spent many years in exile. When two brothers named Jamar and Suwo returned to the Java land, both seemed to insist on revenge from their father, who was the Sultan. Perhaps it is a real tragedy that the two brothers have experienced for many years in exile in America, where both decide to return all of the above by avenging their father.

While Buffalo Boys may not be everything it could have been, it is sometimes good enough.

Opposite the film's clear-eyed and deeply angry ruminating on colonialism, the flatness of the narrative emotionally makes this a bizarrely off-kilter viewing experience.

This 19th-century genre mashup can be giddy fun, though it's a good deal more mindless than its historical context would have you believe.

Funny as it is, the viewer has a hard time deciding if it is cool neo-western or outright camp.

Buffalo Boys ends up somewhat awkwardly caught between mainstream glorifications of violence and more restrained cultural norms emphasizing respect and harmony. This inherent creative conflict however remains mostly obscured by the action-oriented plot...

It's a wonderfully refreshing take on the Western genre thanks to the culturally significant setting and the awesome action sequences, even if other aspects of the film fall short.

The fights are leaden... and the character development is constrained by dumb dialogue, such meager tending-to of an Asian action flick's primary draw is nigh unforgivable.

But the best element, as with Five Fingers, is the use of American cinematic imagery to frame a story that's uniquely non-American.
